too will international sales for passenger and commercial vehicles. In 2011,
overall U.S. exports reached a record $2.1 trillion in value, and supported 9.7
million jobs, an increase of 1.2 million compared to 2009. Through May 2012,
manufactured goods exports are up nearly 9 percent to $556.5 billion as compared
to the same period in 2011. Nearly one-fifth (18 percent) of those goods are
transportation equipment. In 2011, export sales of motor vehicles topped $63
billion, motor vehicle parts - $53 billion, and motor vehicle bodies and
trailers - almost $4 billion.
